An award-winning journalist, author and presenter is how you can describe Redi Tlhabi, but a media house? Absolutely not!

On 29 February, the media personality hosted a livestream on The Big Debate South Africa’s show Reality Check with Redi Tlhabi alongside filmmaker and television producer Ben Cashdan.

Here, Redi spoke and participated in a debate with figures from various political parties.

Showing gratitude on X (formerly known as Twitter), Redi posted, “Truly grateful for the opportunity to speak and debate with @MYANC’s Febe Potgieter Gqubule, @Our_DA, @Rise_Mzansi, @BuildOneSA and @ZackieAchmat! Tough but necessary conversations. Thank you for being on #RealityCheck.”

Because Redi had not mentioned political figure Julius Malema’s party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), one X user asked if the controversial group was invited to the discussion.

Responding to the internet user’s question, Redi wrote, “Yes. They were. Why would we not invite the EFF? They are a formidable political force so it makes no sense to have conversations on democracy and elections without them.”

This prompted the commenter to say, “We can never put it past media houses in this country.”

It seems the comment did not sit well with Redi as she clapped back, “I’m not a bloody media house. O se ka tlo nny*la wena (Don’t sh*t on me).”

Redi’s sassy response garnered a few laughs in the comment section, with others surprised by the language used.
